2024 governed by AI: Will the infrastructure move forward consolidation in 2025?
2024 will be remembered as the year of the telecommunications revolution. Artificial intelligence (AI) stopped being a future promise, consolidating itself as the industry’s driving force, while cybersecurity climbed to the top of global concerns. Networks not only connected people this year, but they also boosted the digital transformation of companies, services and entire sectors.
In terms of impact, what started as a process automation tool quickly transformed into a human capability multiplying force. “Digital workers” will start integrating into key tasks, from customer service to strategic decision-making. However, for a seamless performance of this machinery, technological infrastructure—particularly data centers and networks—still face the challenge of growing at innovation speed.
In 2024, data centers became authentic digital world centers. Cloud and Edge computing enable faster data processing for businesses where they really matter – at the customer’s end. Such decentralization reduces latency and improves end-user experience. This will drive hybrid infrastructure adoption to 85% globally by 2025, according to Gartner.
Needless to say that this connectivity and data processing blast drew cybercriminal attention as well. Almost at the end of this year, there has been a 24% growth vs. 2023, when 29 thousand ransom vulnerabilities were detected in systems and applications, and attackers surpassed one billion dollars in profits. For companies, this was not just a game of chance: protecting their networks and data became a matter of survival.
In this scenario, telecommunications positioned themselves as the digital era’s backbone, leaving data centers as nerve centers for the development of AI-related tasks; therefore they need to operate with greater bandwidth and better connections to process data at speeds such as 400 or 800 gigabytes per second, or even above terabit per second.
As we get closer to 2025, artificial intelligence regulation is expected to gain a leading role as well. Organizations will need to balance innovation and compliance with the highest data privacy and security standards. Having more robust regulatory frameworks in place will be essential to ensure an ethical and safe use of AI, which will also impact the way companies design and implement these technologies.
Finally, projections for 2025 reveal a future of ubiquitous artificial intelligence, provided companies overcome scalability, security and networking challenges. Organizations investing in advanced infrastructure, edge computing technologies, and AI-based security solutions will be better positioned to lead digital transformation.
2024 was a game changer for artificial intelligence, which not only presents unlimited opportunities but significant challenges as well. The question is no longer whether AI will be the driving force for the next years, but rather whether we are prepared to support efficiently and safely said change’s magnitude. 2024 trends and 2025 projections tell us that only those anticipating these challenges will conquer the future of artificial intelligence.
